Home of the Kubiak's

About mid-November I moved into what will be the house that Stephen and I start our lives together in! We are so blessed to know the Harley's and their generosity in letting us rent this wonderful home. It has been so exciting moving in and decorating this house that will hold so many memories for Stephen and I. =)

Here it is!

Registries!

I know it's been a while, sorry! There has actually been a lot going on with the wedding in the last week! There will be more blogs about that in the coming week...I've got to tie up some loose ends so for now you will have to remain in suspense!
But what I can share is that today Stephen and I spend ALL day registering for our wedding gifts! It was a lot of fun and very neat to decorate our new home together.
We are registered at Bed, Bath & Beyond and Target. Easy links...
From there get on the links for bridal registries and for Target it is ClubWedd. You can search for either Stephen or I's name and our registry should pop up. Of course you can always go to the store and they can print it for you. These links will also be on our wedding website.
Like I said before...more to come this week so keep checking! =)

flowers, food, and pictures

what a successful day! things are coming along.
i met with the florist today and talked to her about what all i wanted and reserved her for our big day. she made it sound like what i wanted would be easy to do, maybe somewhat pricey, but easy.

my mom made the wonderful discovery of a caterer! that might have been the best part of today. my mom talked to the lady, but apparently she has been doing it for 35 years and knew exactly what kind of ideas we needed for feeding 300 people!

right after all that, my mom and i met with the (maybe) photographer at his studio. we looked over some other weddings he has done and got a feel for his style. the pictures were great and the price is totally the selling point (wedding on a budget!). i think i am going to check with one or two more local photographers we've heard of through word of mouth, to do some comparing.

all in all i feel like a lot got done, which is a great feeling! now all i have to do is wait 8 months. of course, the fun part is coming up... registering! =)

update!...finally

i know, i know...it's been a while. not too much to update actually...let's see...
last saturday me, my mom, brittney and sara went to david's and picked out the bridemaids and maid of honor dresses, that was one more thing off my plate :) they are very simple, but it's going to be beautiful!
oh, one big thing...this Sunday (9/14) our engagment anouncement will be in the Tallahassee Democrat! If you get the paper make sure you look for it, if you don't live in Tally leave a comment and I'll do my best to scrounge up some extra copies if anyone wants one. (no promises!)
um...let's see...i think other than searching for a caterer and trying to get the guest list together, that's all we've got going on wedding-wise right now.
i am working a ton and stephen has started school back for the semester, so we are busy!

wedding website

in case this blog isn't quite sufficient - i made a wedding website as well! it gives more of the details instead of experiences. and as soon as we decide on registries and whatnot, they can be accessed through this website.

the guest password is: 061208

enjoy! =)

picture perfect

saturday we took some engagement pictures. we got dressed up and headed to Dorothy B. Oven park with my mom, vicki and steph. besides being very hot, it was a perfect day for pictures...or so we thought. apparently it was also a good day for gnats and mosquitos, and they swarmed stephen. so out of almost 200 pictures we got about 8 good ones. we will definitely go back and take some more soon.
here are some of the good ones...

planning thus far...

thus far, planning a wedding has had it's ups and downs.
most recent and biggest accomplishments so far have been picking the church and after MUCH debate and researching, picking the reception venue(s). i felt so relieved when we finally came around to the idea of having the reception in the fellowship hall of the church and then heading to Chez Pierre for more time to hang out with our friends and family. two of the biggest decisions made!
my dress is here and is in my closet (yes, it takes all my will power not to try it on everyday :)).
probably the biggest surprise so far (other than the unbelievably high prices of just about everything wedding related) is our guest list...we are almost at 250 people! and we don't even have everyone on there yet!
the biggest issue or problem so far (aside from the afore mentioned venue frustration) has definitely been compromise! ...and i will just leave it at that. ;)

"Wouldn't it be nice" if Stephen finally posted?

I decided to quit being a bum, after much prompting from Ashley, and write a little of my own thoughts. With the actual proposal, I had several ideas I was tossing around in my mind, but I was pretty sure I wanted to do it at Disney. Almost everyone knows I love Disney World enough to smuggle a pup tent onto Tom Sawyer Island and live the rest of my days in the park! Because Disney is such a special place for my family and I, I wanted to share that with Ashley, especially in a way that would be memorable to us both. This will also force her to love Disney as much as I do so when our kids and I are screaming to go down there after watching the Very Merry Christmas Parade on ABC she’ll have to say yes. (Yes, future children of Ashley and Stephen, you may thank your father!)

Previously, Ashley and I had the chance to go to Disney with my friend, and Best Man, Daniel on our Spring Break in 2007 and with my family that December. I may be stating too much on her behalf, but I think she was able to see what I love about it, and why I was glad to share it with her. The stroll down Main Street USA with the glittering white lights hung like Christmas, the roar and thunder of the Illuminations fireworks through the night, and the pain in my right arm as Ashley digs into me while the elevator plummets on the Tower of Terror. It’s a place of fantasy and fiction, and I soak it all up like a dry sponge. What can I say? Mickey is my homeboy.

Needless to say, my borderline unhealthy infatuation with this corporate wonderland led to the idea of a Disney proposal, which, as one might think, offers a vastly different array of scenarios. I knew it had to be something good, so as I do with everything, I planned and daydreamed in my mind to no end. My dilemma came what to do and in figuring out just how I would pull it off. Ashley has already said how she was fooled (A washer and dryer? Ha!), but that was a task in itself. I was shot at a few times when I flew in Afghanistan, but that certainly wasn’t as stressful as trying to fool Ashley.

I originally wanted to do something with the Great Movie Ride, in which, for those who have been on the ride, I would come out when the gangster/cowboy bandit tried, and failed, to get the jewel from the statue and the regular tour guide joined back. I figured it would be good because it was dramatic, it related to something I love, movies, and it seemed very original. Thankfully, I decided against this because I found out Ashley wanted it to be just us when I proposed and on the ride about fifty other people would have helplessly watched. (and would probably be angry that I ruined their ride!) Also, the day I proposed Ashley said she really didn’t like the ride, which I didn’t know! So, I pulled a Matrix and dodged a bullet with that one! (<= notice the movie reference for the movie ride)

Proposing on the beach just really came to me in one of my daydream sessions, probably at a time when I should have been watching my kids at work. I needed something that represented the two of us, the beach for her and Disney for me, some place where we could be alone, at night with only my super stalker sister hiding on the hill in the glow of a single orange camcorder button, and something I could pull of with relative ease. You see Ashley knew I was going to propose this summer so as we started to reach the middle of July she was getting fidgety. The idea to just go down there and get it done, so to speak, was just a spark of an idea that I knew I needed to act on. Ashley says that I’m not always assertive, which I think she misinterprets as me trying to let her have her way, not a big deal, but by just going on this spur of the moment to propose shows her I can throw a surprise her way! However, just in case the plan of the beach didn’t work I carried the ring in my cargo pants pocket so that if the mood stuck me I could propose, which thankfully, I stayed my hand and waited till after dinner.

Really the only time I was nervous about the situation was the idea of Stephanie tracking us and trying to take pictures because I thought Ashley had spotted her, as I had, in front of Toy Story Mania. For the rest of the day I was pretty paranoid that the entire plan would be in jeopardy. Thankfully, Ashley never caught on so I was good to go. Hopefully this blog isn’t a total rant. I’m not getting a grade so I’m not going to edit!

the planning has begun!

warning: guys probably will not enjoy this post :)

surprisingly enough, only one week into being engaged and i have found THE dress! i am shocked that it happened so quickly, but quite relieved!
i know that one week being engaged and already dress shopping seems a bit soon, but i had my reasons...not to mention i love weddings and everything to do with them! :)
anyway - a week after being engaged and i think i have shown off my ring and told the story to everyone i know...and some i didn't know. day one of dress shopping and my mom, my sister (MOH), and katie (bridesmaid) went to david's "just to look." i had some picked out from online that i knew i wanted to try on, so i did. i think i was 5 or 6 dresses in when i tried on "the one." i walked out of the dressing room and jaws dropped, and so did mine when i finally saw it. it is completely what i always pictured. i wore it for probably 20 minutes and katie took lots of pictures. i knew it was the one when I of all people didn't want to try on the rest of the dresses from my list. so we got it! i am sooo excited!!
i was disappointed that some important people couldn't be there, but i know they understand. :)

P.S. - for those reading wondering if the groom has anything to say, he keeps telling me he's going to post something, but we will see :)
Oh and sorry but, obviously I can't up any of the 80 something pictures we took yesterday!

a history lesson.

so i thought about it last night, and some people reading may not know the story behind stephen and i, so here's how we became us...
i actually knew "of" stephen throughout high school since steph and i were in the same grade. but to me he was only "stephanie kubiak's hot older brother." i also remember having a class with stephanie the same year that stephen first went into the military and actually hearing about it and praying for him. but that was that...for a while.
when we got to college, in the fall semester 2005, i walked into speech class the first day and saw stephanie, finally a familiar face at tcc. of course on the first day the teacher went through the roster and and i finally saw who stephen kubiak was...a quiet guy in the back of the room with a FULL beard. oddly enough, i didn't think much of it other than "oh, that's stephanie's brother?" about half way through the semester it was stephen's day to present a speech. well it was on that day i "noticed" him, all cleaned up...and no more beard! =) for the next few months he was again, "stephanie's good lookin' older brother." we talked here and there, i went over to the kubiak's house every now and then for bible study and game nights, but that was it, just friends.
valentine's day 2006 we had our first date. there are a couple different versions to how this came about, but i won't go into that. =) we went to dinner at chili's and drove through dorothy b. oven park, a pretty basic date night; but i definitely went home that night feeling like i had my first crush all over again. we started talking more after that, doing more things together. but it wasn't until may that we decided to start a real relationship.
almost 2 1/2 years later, we have been through a lot, grown stronger as a couple and most importantly we have helped each other grow stronger as christians. i am extremely blessed that God has brought stephen and i together. i can't wait to marry him! =)

And so it all begins...

we are engaged!!!!!
this is my first blogging experience, but vicki (my future mother-in-law =)) suggested this to keep all families in touch and up to date!
so here's how it happened...
stephen and i went to orlando to "help steph move a washer and dryer" and to have a nice weekend getaway. saturday i was told that steph was getting us into the park then had to work all day. so stephen and i spent all day at mgm and epcot and then planned for a nice evening out. on the way to dinner stephen said he couldn't get us reservations anywhere so we would spend some time at downtown disney. but after walking around for a few minutes he broke the news that we actually did have reservations at a very nice restaurant, the california grille. little did i know that was something to throw me off and we actually went to the grand floridian resort (the most beautiful place ever...a resort with a beach, perfect!). after walking around and enjoying our surroundings stephen told me we had real reservations at citricos, a beautiful restaurant in the hotel. so we had the most amazing meal ever and thanks for perfect timing, we walked out onto the beach and watched the fireworks from magic kingdom. to make it more romantic we were the only two people on the beach. so after about a 20 minute fireworks show, stephen got down on one knee and popped the question!! it was a perfect night, nothing could have made it better! not to mention my ring is GORGEOUS! =)
after i composed myself, stephen told me that steph actually was not working all day but following us around the parks documenting our day and got the proposal on video. (steph, you are awesome!!)
July 12, 2008...a day to remember! =)
